چکیده

Abstract– This article describes an investigation into the free vibration of double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNTs) using a nonlocal elastic shell model. Eringen’s nonlocal elasticity is implemented to incorporate the scale effect into the Donnell shell model. Also, the van der Waals interaction between the inner and outer nanotubes is taken into account. A new numerical solution method from incorporating the radial point interpolation approximation within the framework of the generalized differential quadrature (GDQ) method is developed to solve the problem. DWCNTs with arbitrary layerwise boundary conditions are considered in this paper. It is shown that applying the local Donnell shell model leads to overestimated results and one must recourse to the nonlocal version to reduce the relative error. Also, this work reveals that in contrast to the beam model, the present nonlocal elastic shell model is capable of predicting some new noncoaxial inter-tube resonances in studying the vibrational response of DWCNTs.

On the Buckling Response of Axially Pressurized Nanotubes Based on a Novel Nonlocal Beam Theory

In the present study, the buckling analysis of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT) on the basis of a new refined beam theory is analyzed. The SWCNT is modeled as an elastic beam subjected to unidirectional compressive loads. To achieve this aim, the new proposed beam theory has only one unknown variable which leads to one equation similar to Euler beam theory and is also free from any shear ...

Nonlocal Flügge shell model for the axial buckling of single-walled Carbon nanotubes: An analytical approach

In this paper, the stability characteristics of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) under the action of axial load are investigated. To this end, a nonlocal Flügge shell model is developed to accommodate the small length scale effects. The analytical Rayleigh-Ritz method with beam functions is applied to the variational statement derived from the Flügge-type buckling equations. Molecular dy...

Nonlinear Vibration Analysis of Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes in Thermal Environment using the Nonlocal Timoshenko Beam Model

In this paper, based on the nonlocal Timoshenko beam theory, a nonlinear model is presented for the vibrational behavior of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) embedded in elastic medium in thermal environment. Using the Timoshenko beam theory and nonlocal elasticity of Eringen, the influences of rotary inertia, transverse shear deformation and small scale effect are taken into account. To model the intera...

The effect of small scale on the vibrational behavior of single-walled carbon nanotubes with a moving nanoparticle

In this paper, free and forced vibration of simply-supported Single-walled carbon nanotube is investigated under the moving nanoparticle by considering nonlocal cylindrical shell model. To validate the theoretical results, modal analysis of nanotube is conducted using ANSYS commercial software. Excellent agreement is exhibited between the results of two different methods. Furthermore, the dynam...
